Kylay

Just because something doesn't work straight out of the box, doesn't mean that it will never work

The equivalents in other sports (as Northern said), work well and they've seen improvements in reffing decisions, because they get help

Football needs to see what's wrong with VAR and correct that - it's early days

It's not because football is thick ...it may be more corrupt, with diving, trying to get opponents sent off etc

Personally, I'd much rather see a correct decision, even after a VAR delay, than to see injustice

I stick with what I said, VAR is only there to correct glaring errors...10mm offside is NOT a glaring error

Retired refs?

Reading the entrails of dead refs would work better than the current system.

Jarza....too be fair I said it works in absolutely every other sport that its used in ...not just cricket... i also said the reason why it does not work in football is that everyone involved in football is too thick ...ill stand by that...

Jarza,

The burden of proof to overturn is supposed to be clear and convincing but this is almost never mentioned particularly on borderline calls.

It needs to be done away with. between that and water breaks we will have commercial breaks within a year

Re: VAR. Apologies if a thread elsewhere.
Some while ago, Northern said 'it works in cricket'
The reason it works in cricket is that it's not used to the millimetre as it is in football, it's only used to prevent an awful mistake by the onfield umpire

Football should follow this...decision stays with the ref/lino unless VAR proves there's been a huge mistake...like the Liverpool offside at ours last year (oh...hold on!)

It was our old mate Jon Moss on VAR for the Chelsea game.
I’d like to rotate him in a cement mixer and build a skyscraper on top of him

Think they rotate current refs.

Re: VAR. Updated
Thought they were retired refs?
They need to still find a way of its use being consistent and fair, otherwise it's just an extra layer of manipulation that is only causing more delay killing momentum and the passion of the best part of a game.
The rules on the pitch and for when and how VAR is used as you said need tweaking and definining.

It hasn't levelled it out for us of course, as we've once again been on the wrong end of more bad decisions than good and has cost us just as many points as in previous years.

Re: VAR. Updated
13,

Someone said 'retired refs'.

No skin in the game, so why not? Might bring more consistency. Anything has to be better than what's currently happening.

Re: VAR. Updated
Agree with all of that VH but it needs to be objective and consistent too where it can't be manipulated.or not used when it suits.

Pretty sure if Chelsea had scored the Soucek goal when Antonio was on his back, they wouldn't have spent 4 minutes with a microscope trying to rule it out.
Probably wouldn't have even gone to VAR and either way would have been allowed and the offside dismissed because it was impossible to tell.

Now Liverpool have won the league. They need a relegation battle last day of the season .

So they can't have villa losing

Re: VAR. Updated
4 things have to happen.

i) VAR time limit of on minute. If you can't decide, go to on-field decision.

ii) Overhaul hand ball rule, so it's even for attack and defence.

iii) Do away with measurements for off-side.

iv) If refs use pitchside monitors, the time starts when they get there.

Thank God the PL have been fired.

Re: VAR. Updated
It's been a disaster imho.
Has killed that explosion of joy and relief when we score as you have one eye on the officials and oppo players reaction hoping there's no raised arms or flags.

Also it's still not objective or consistent so there's an even greater sense of injustice when it gets it wrong or spends four minutes looking for the tiniest infringement, when at other times infringements are just casually ignored and VAR is not even involved.
Can be used and manipulated to still suit the favoured sides so it's a pointless interference that just winds fans up.

It's not the fucking VAR it's the fucking rules.

The VAR idiots at it again chalking off a perfectly good goal by Palace off the shoulder.

It's completely ruined football.

Re: VAR. Updated
I’m more of Collinas point of view that they protect their mates.
Plus they don’t want to over rule as they know when the positions are reversed and they are on the pitch with the other ref in the bunker that they will burn them.
That’s how these petty cunts think.
Get retired pros in the bunker and their role is to look for drastic errors and ask the ref to go to the screen for another look.
With offsides .... two looks and if it isn’t immediately obvious stays with the onfield decision. 30 secs max to make a call
This accidental handball in the build up binned apart from if a ball goes directly in off a hand like the Bournemouth one v Spurs.

Re: VAR. Apologies if a thread elsewhere.
Premier League refs ain't part time any more. Their average salary is £70k+. Taking a bribe wouldn't be worth the risk, and high risk takers generally aren't the sort of officious little pricks who become refs in the first place.

Re: VAR. Apologies if a thread elsewhere.
No one yet mentioned the option that these refs are a slight bit bent?? The amount of money involved. They must be open to being bribed?? That's my view of this. They cant be that bad surely??

Re: VAR. Apologies if a thread elsewhere.
Collina's reported comments today illustrate the point I made earlier about Riley being the font of our VAR problems - he goes on to illustrate exactly the self interest policy of apparent unity
I predict that Riley will be history by the start of the new season, and thank the Lord for that

Mex Martillo 10:37 Sat Jul 11
Re: VAR. Apologies if a thread elsewhere.
I’m not sure FIFA is going in the right direction. But something has to be done and perhaps this helps.
The other thing that needs to be looked at is the actual rules, now they are being so precisely applied it makes sense to change then to help keep the game as we know it. That VAR applies the rules is not the fault of VAR.
On the whole I think it is better to have stupid fine errors than big glaring ones, but errors are still changing games as always.
